Re-create Yourself

Do you see that GLOW? Of course you do and it’s not just from the amazing highlighter. A real glow starts from within. In one of the best books I have read thus far, “The 48 Laws of Power” by: Robert Greene, law 25 states “Re-create Yourself”.  As the book defines this law, “be the master of your own image rather than letting others define it for you…remake yourself into a character of power. Working on yourself like clay should be one of your greatest and most pleasurable life tasks.” I felt this on a spiritual level. 2017 has taught me many things but one of the main lesson is how important self-love is. If you don’t love yourself, how could you possibly love anyone else? Taking the necessary steps to look at the person in the mirror and say, “wow, ya poppin’!”, is so crucial to bettering yourself. This shouldn’t only be only a physical thing but what’s on the inside counts much more.

Not only have I been re-creating myself but also clothing! When I was a junior in high school I took a fashion design class because I thought I wanted to be a fashion designer, boy was I wrong. I hated the class, I lacked still lack patience; it just wasn’t for me but I’ve always been into art & crafts and creative activities. In college it was mandatory that I take a textiles course & lab, which I grew to enjoy very much. I learned about a wide variety of fabrics, textures, dyes, etc. Ever since I will occasionally manipulate clothes from time to time and make them into something else. That is how this look came together.

Being as though I’m 5’10, it has always been hard for me to find cute jeans that are long enough. I had been thinking about going to more thrift stores in NYC and doing some DIY projects. While on my lunch break one day I went to Michael’s and Buffalo Exchange, from there that’s when these embellished jeans became a thing. I trimmed them, distressed them, and then added pearls to seal the deal. I turned these basic mom jeans into something I had been wanting in my closet for the longest. This peach ruffled tulle top is also from Buffalo Exchange. From the color to the ruffles, I couldn’t leave the store without it. I just knew it would add just what I needed for this look. I also made the denim choker too! While re-creating these pieces from the thrift store, I also helped to re-create myself; finding more of what makes you happy and gives you a natural glow will do that. This project helped get more of my creative juices flowing and now I have more ideas to put in place! Everyone has talents, just please make sure you’re putting them to use. I know for sure as a person I am still a work in progress but I’m bettering myself and my craft everyday. Keep glowing and growing! Scroll down some more for the full details on this look…
