It feels like just yesterday I was twenty-two years old, with a little over a month left until graduation, when on this very day I decided to start my own blog. Most people don’t know I have been writing poetry since I was in middle school. I have notebooks full of poems. If you are ever around me and I am quiet, something is probably wrong because I have always been extremely talkative and would even get in trouble in school for talking to whoever was sitting next to me. The idea of creating a blog, where I can talk to people all around the world about fashion, style, music, beauty, and whatever else seemed amazing!
With my parents blessing me with the name Amirah, which means Princess in Arabic, I figured I should include that into my blog’s name to make it unique and true to me. Growing up I would BEG my mom to take me to the mall after school and we would shop until we couldn’t shop anymore! Fashion has always played a huge role in my life. My family and friends constantly come to me for advice on what to wear or how to style certain pieces, which helped me bring together the first half of my blog’s name; knowing people will be happy with the way I styled them as they “lookinthemirah”. The name is clever and sticks in peoples minds when I tell them.
This specific post was meant to celebrate the two year
anniversary blogiversary of lookinthemirah, while also embracing my personal style! If you’ve been following since day one you’ve seen my blog, as well as myself, evolve. I graduated college, two months later moved to NYC, and have had opportunities I’ve only dreamed of. I can’t even being to explain how thankful I am for ALL the people who ,have and still, support me and my blog throughout these two years. It truly means a lot! I’ve been given so many words of encouragement when it comes to my blog, my career, and my life in general that there’s no way I could ever give up with a support system like this!
There’s only one person on this Earth I can be and that person is none other than… ME! My motto for my life and this blog is Be Fashion. Be Creative. Be Free. This look is reflecting that to the fullest. I’ll give you guys a little glimpse of the concept behind this look and how/why I put these pieces together. This location was chosen because Brooklyn has been my home for almost two years now and I still find myself falling in love with it on a daily basis. I knew somewhere between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges I would be able to find the perfect mix of sweet and edgy; both adjectives also accurately describe my personality. Just a little side note, my “2” balloon broke off the string before I was able to take pictures on the actual bridge. My photographer and people around me by the waterfront all screamed, while I sat there in laughter.
I’m convinced Nas has taken a few sips from the Fountain of Youth; like wine, he gets better with time. This man has aged so gracefully. He can’t do wrong in my eyes, so the moment I saw this t-shirt of “It Was Written/ If I Ruled The World” in H&M’s men section I grabbed it without hesitation. Let’s just imagine, what if I really did rule the world? This was the first ever piece of men’s clothing I bought but I knew somehow I’d be able to make it fit right in with other pieces of my wardrobe. I’m not a huge fan of fringe or ruffles but the fringe on this skirt is so subtle I could deal with it. From blue, to white, gold, and red I loved the color combinations that brought this skirt together. To make the red pop out I decided to wear these Steve Madden platforms. The earrings were the icing on the cake, honestly. Bamboo earrings have been a thing since the 80s and they’re not going away any time soon. I just like to have fun! That’s what girls just wanna do, right? Through everything I style you are able to see my visions come to life. I hope you have enjoyed your time here and continue on this journey with me for years to come!
