Giving Thanks Musically

These past few days in the music industry have been crazy! With so much new music for me to keep in rotation, I honestly don’t know what to do with myself. On Thanksgiving, at 4pm, Fabolous released his new mixtape called “Summertime Shootout”. I am a ride or die Fab fan! This man and his music have had my heart for years. He never disappoints me, especially when it comes to his mixtapes. I can listen to each of his three Soul Tape mixtapes all the way through. “Summertime Shootout” is amazing; another classic for sure. Fab really showed out with this one. There are a lot of great features, as well as dope beats! I can listen without skipping a song but my top 5 favorites are Real One (feat. Jazzy), Doin’ It Well (feat. Nicki Minaj & Trey Songz), Tell Ya Friends (feat. The Weeknd), Motivation, The Plug, and Trap Royalty (feat. Mike Davis). Next up is the great Erykah Badu! At midnight, she released her mixtape “But You Caint Use My Phone”. Her music always does something to me. I can just chill out and vibe to all her albums. She does two remixes that I really like; Cel U Lar Device, which is a remix to Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. Badu also does a spin on Usher’s “U Don’t Have To Call”. She’s so creative and fun with her music. During the whole mixtape she is able to create an amazing energy. My favorite song is “Hello”, which features Andre 3000. I love him as an artist! Every track he gets on, he demolishes it, even when it’s not his own. Since they have a child together, I think it’s dope that their relationship is cool enough that they could make a song together. I have to relisten to Lil Wayne’s “No Ceilings 2” mixtape. I wasn’t able to listen to every song but from what I heard, it was good. Weezy is legendary and was the mixtape King when I was in middle school/high school so I’m sure it’s a good listen. Chris Brown also dropped his mixtape “Before The Party”, which I haven’t listened to yet. Both Kendrick Lamar and J Cole released Black Friday Freestyles. Kendrick Lamar rapped off J Cole’s ” A Tale of 2 Citiez” beat, while J Cole rapped off of Kendrick’s song “Alright”. It was announced via Twitter from their pages saying the other had a “gift”. Both were definitely great gifts for me! They are both two very talented rappers with phenomenal albums this year (J Cole’s technically was released in December of 2014). Last but not least, Trey Songz! His mixtape, “To Whom It May Concern”, came out yesterday. Trey is another artist whose mixtapes always give me life. I’ve been rockin’ with Trey Songz music since he’s been out and despite his one album,”Chapter V”, which wasn’t so great in my eyes, the mixtape thus far sounds good! Still til this day, I can blast his Anticipation 1 & 2 mixtapes. Musically, 2015 has been crazy and I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store!
